PHOSTONE™

PHOSTONE™ is struvite recovered from sewage used as an agricultural fertilizer.

What is struvite?

  • A phosphate mineral: MgNH₄PO₄·6H₂O
  • Natural forms now depleted (once occurred off coastal islands of Chile and Peru)
  • Phosphorous is a non-renewable resource essential for crop growth but highly polluting if left untreated
  • Struvite left untreated in sewage will clog and damage pipes in waste management facilities
  • Can be recovered from biological waste (sewage)
  • Can be used as organic fertilizer and applied in agriculture

PHOSTONE™ properties

  • Sparingly soluble in water
  • 100% citrate soluble
  • Very low salt index between 1-7
  • Does not cause chemical burns to plant roots
  • Releases nutrients only when plants need them
  • Long lasting source of phosphorous throughout many seasons
  • Reduced application rates compared to most commodity fertilizers
  • Various granule sizes can be produced

Why PHOSTONE™?

Higher yield, lower costs and healthier soil

  • No pollution – Sparingly soluble in water & 100% citrate soluble means virtually no soil run-off, preventing soil compaction and runoff pollution
  • Economic benefits – No soil run-off also means reduced fertilizer application
  • Parsimony – PHOSTONE™ contains 2 out of 3 primary macronutrients for plant growth – nitrogen and phosphorous, in addition to essential secondary macronutrient magnesium, thus reducing the need for other fertilizers
  • Granularity – PHOSTONE™ can be produced in various granule sizes
