PHOSTONE™
PHOSTONE™ is struvite recovered from sewage used as an agricultural fertilizer.
What is struvite?
- A phosphate mineral: MgNH₄PO₄·6H₂O
- Natural forms now depleted (once occurred off coastal islands of Chile and Peru)
- Phosphorous is a non-renewable resource essential for crop growth but highly polluting if left untreated
- Struvite left untreated in sewage will clog and damage pipes in waste management facilities
- Can be recovered from biological waste (sewage)
- Can be used as organic fertilizer and applied in agriculture
PHOSTONE™ properties
- Sparingly soluble in water
- 100% citrate soluble
- Very low salt index between 1-7
- Does not cause chemical burns to plant roots
- Releases nutrients only when plants need them
- Long lasting source of phosphorous throughout many seasons
- Reduced application rates compared to most commodity fertilizers
- Various granule sizes can be produced
Why PHOSTONE™?
Higher yield, lower costs and healthier soil
- No pollution – Sparingly soluble in water & 100% citrate soluble means virtually no soil run-off, preventing soil compaction and runoff pollution
- Economic benefits – No soil run-off also means reduced fertilizer application
- Parsimony – PHOSTONE™ contains 2 out of 3 primary macronutrients for plant growth – nitrogen and phosphorous, in addition to essential secondary macronutrient magnesium, thus reducing the need for other fertilizers
- Granularity – PHOSTONE™ can be produced in various granule sizes
